Lower Eyelid Aesthetic Surgery Lower eyelid aesthetic surgery is a treatment that is offered to patients who are concerned about under-eye bags and excess skin. This procedure is generally planned in two ways. Transconjunctival Method:If significant amount of excess skin, the surgery is performed through an incision inside the eye. In this method, excess or herniated fat is either removed or repositioned in the lower eyelid. Subciliary Method:If excess skin, the surgery is performed through an incision made near the lash line. The appropriate method for the procedure was determined after a thorough examination.

Lower eyelid surgery is ideal for patients with complaints of puffiness and excess skin in the lower eyelid. Additionally, lower eyelid surgery can include a procedure known as canthopexy, commonly referred to as the "almond eye" surgery.
There is no specific age limit for blepharoplasty. Although the procedure is typically performed at a certain age, it can also be performed on younger patients who experience sagging due to genetic factors.
No specific season was designated for surgery. However, for surgeries performed during the summer months, wearing sunglasses is recommended to prevent poor healing of incision scars caused by sun exposure.
In clinical practice, the number of patients undergoing isolated lower eyelid surgery is limited. The face is one of the body regions in which harmony is crucial. For this reason, in suitable patients, lower eyelid surgery is often combined with other procedures, such as upper eyelid surgery, brow lift, mid-face lift, deep plane facelift, neck lift, and fat injection.
Dissolvable stitches are used for surgeries performed using the transconjunctival method; therefore, stitch removal is not required. For surgeries performed using the subsidiary method, stitches were removed on the 7th postoperative day.
In lower eyelid surgery, stitches are placed very close to the lash line, making scars generally less noticeable. However, the healing process in each patient varied. If scarring occurs, scar-reducing creams are recommended to minimize scarring.
Although eyelid surgeries can help improve asymmetry in some cases, achieving perfect symmetry between the two eyes after the procedure is not possible. Scientific studies have shown that over 95% of people naturally have asymmetry between their right and left eye. It is crucial for patients to be aware of this prior to surgery.
Patients can return to normal activities starting on the second day after surgery. The use of sunglasses is highly recommended to protect the cornea. Following the removal of stitches, patients could resume their daily routines seamlessly.
As with all surgeries, the outcomes of lower eyelid surgery vary depending on the individual. Mild swelling and redness persisted until the 6th week. Complete healing and tissue adaptation typically take around 6 to 12 months to achieve.
Eyelid surgery does not prevent the aging process. As individuals continue to age, signs of aging gradually reappear. At some point, the individual may return to a state similar to their preoperative appearance. It is challenging to predict how long the effects of surgery will last, as this depends heavily on individual factors. Typically, patients with good skin elasticity, strong bone structure, well-functioning muscles, and no additional issues in the midface or forehead anatomy tend to experience more pronounced and longer-lasting outcomes.
As with all surgical procedures, recovery after eyelid surgery depends on both the surgical process and individual patient factors. For more detailed information about the general process and potential complications, please refer to the consent form.
