Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal area and to tighten weakened or separated muscles, resulting in a smoother and firmer abdominal profile. This procedure is particularly beneficial for individuals who have experienced significant weight loss or pregnancy, leading to sagging skin and weakened abdominal muscles.

Before the operation, patients are fitted with embolism-preventing stockings, and a catheter is inserted. Patients are allowed to walk 4-5 hours after the operation. Because the abdominal muscles are tightened, patients are expected to walk while bending forward for the first 4-5 days. Drains are removed on the first or second day. Showers can be taken 24 hours after the drains are removed. Since all sutures are subcutaneous, there is no need for stitch removal. Patients can return to their daily activities one week after the operation. Wearing a corset is recommended for at least four weeks. Sports that do not affect the abdominal muscles can be resumed after three weeks, and all other sports can be resumed after six weeks.Resuming normal activities can be resumed one month after the operation.
If a tummy tuck is performed together with liposuction, it takes 2-3 hours, and if an isolated tummy tuck is performed, it takes 1-2 hours.
Because a tummy tuck essentially involves removing loose skin, weight loss in our patients has a positive impact on the outcome. However, the procedure can also be performed on patients who are unable to lose weight.
The procedure is performed on eligible patients over the age of 18. The procedure can be performed in any season. Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia.
Scars in the lower abdomen are located below the underwear line. Because the belly button is reconstructed, there will be scars around the belly button and in the lower abdomen. After six months, scars will fade, but smoking and genetic factors will affect the visibility of the scar.
To achieve harmony, a tummy tuck is often combined with localized fat removal (liposcution). Breast surgery, arm lifts, and fat injections to the face or buttocks can also be performed simultaneously.
As long as there is no excessive weight gain after the surgery, the results are permanent. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are particularly effective after the surgery.
Minor asymmetries are inevitable after every surgery. Even with a tummy tuck, subtle asymmetries between the right and left sides of the body may occur. Because the scars are located below the underwear line, these asymmetries are not noticeable.
A tummy tuck does not prevent pregnancy. It is possible to become pregnant after 18 months. Excessive weight gain during pregnancy will cause sagging.
As with all surgical procedures, recovery from a tummy tuck depends on both the surgeon and the patient. You can read our consent form for general information about the procedure, its overall process, and potential complications.
