Prominent Ear
Prominent ears occur when there is too much space between the ear and the head, or when the ear cartilage has not developed properly. Through an incision made behind the ear, excess cartilage is removed, the ear cartilage is fixed to the structures of the head, and the flat cartilage is folded in its anatomical shape.

Preoperative Requirements
- Before the surgery, smoking and blood-thinning medications should be discontinued at least 3 weeks in advance.
Postoperative Requirements
- On the first day after the surgery, a tight dressing will be applied. Mild pain in the form of a slight ache may be experienced in the ears.
- After the dressing is removed, swelling and mild bruising may be seen in the ears.
- Patients are typically discharged the same day or the following day. Normal activities can be resumed 1 day later.
- For the incision behind the ear, dressing should be applied for 10 days. A tennis elbow bandage is worn for 3 weeks, day and night, and then for the following 3 weeks, only at night.

Prominent ear surgery can be performed at any age after 5-6 years old, but the ideal age is around 5-6 years old, before starting school.
There is no specific age limit for blepharoplasty. Although the surgery is generally performed after a certain age, some younger patients may also undergo the procedure due to genetic factors causing sagging. Therefore, blepharoplasty is performed in younger patients as well.
Swelling and edema decrease and completely disappear after 1 month. Within 6 months, the ear cartilage will relax and open by about 4-5 degrees, reaching its final position. Therefore, during the surgery, the ear is positioned slightly more than needed to account for this change.
A normal human ear is not 100% symmetrical, and slight asymmetry can be observed after any surgical procedure. Therefore, mild asymmetry can also be seen in prominent ear surgery. Although the ears are positioned as symmetrically as possible during the surgery, it should be noted that the healing process of the two ears will be different, which may lead to asymmetry.
No surgery is 100% permanent, but especially surgeries performed in childhood tend to have higher long-term results.
