Face and Neck Lift

In the early postoperative period, bandages or corsets that cover the neck and face are used. For the first 10 days, daily dressing changes and light corsets are worn. Swelling and bruising gradually decrease. Small asymmetries may be noticeable due to swelling during the first 3–4 weeks. It takes 4–6 weeks for the shape of the face to settle. Final results begin to become visible between 6–12 months. Scar-reducing creams are used starting from the 2nd week. Although the return to social life varies from patient to patient, a 3-week period of isolation is generally recommended.

There are several important considerations for our patients during the postoperative period. Smoking should be absolutely avoided. Intense physical exercise should be avoided. A strict diet is important, and salty foods should be avoided to prevent swelling. Being in an environment with abundant oxygen will help speed up healing. While healing varies for each patient, scars generally heal in a way that will satisfy most patients. Especially after the 3rd month, a noticeable reduction in scars can be seen.

These surgeries are ideal for patients with sagging in the middle and lower face, as well as in the neck.

While the surgery is generally performed after the age of 40, it can be done at an earlier age in suitable patients. Although the surgery can be performed at any time of the year, the preferred seasons are typically autumn and winter, when sunlight is less intense.

In our clinical practice, the number of patients undergoing isolated facelift and neck lift surgery is limited. The facial area is the body region where harmony is most essential. Therefore, in suitable patients, facelift and neck lift surgeries are often combined with procedures such as brow lift, upper and lower eyelid surgery, midface lift, and fat injection.

In facelift and neck lift surgeries, the longevity is much higher compared to other procedures, as the anatomical structures are freed and repositioned in new locations. No surgery can stop the aging process, but the effects of these surgeries last for many years. Since recovery and longevity vary from person to person, it’s not accurate to provide a specific timeframe. However, studies indicate that facelift and neck lift surgeries, which involve deeper layers, can have a lasting effect of around 10 years. These surgeries are part of a highly satisfactory group of operations.

A large majority of people naturally have some degree of asymmetry in their faces. Although tissues are placed as symmetrically as possible during the surgery, there are many factors that can affect the healing process. As a result, there is always a possibility of slight asymmetry. All facial surgical procedures carry a risk of asymmetry, so it is extremely important for our patients to be aware of this possibility before the operation.
